Synopsis
The mariner’s needle
A mysterious carrack over 500 years old appears dismasted and adrift off the coast of Biscay.
Héctor Álvarez, a journalist for El Correo, manages to be present during the ship’s first inspection thanks to his friendship with Ertzaintza officer Peio Bazako. During the exploration, they discover a small chest and what appear to be four ancient coins. The journalist senses that these objects could change the course of his declining career.
But before they can leave the ship, the old carrack succumbs to the waters and sinks. Peio Bazako fails to escape and drowns in the depths.
The chip log
The journalist is rescued at the last moment and manages to recover a manuscript written by a wretched cabin boy who sailed aboard the caravel Pinta. In its pages, the young sailor records shocking revelations about that extraordinary adventure that changed the course of history.
In the last pages of the manuscript, the journalist finds vague clues that could lead him to a second document. It details the fate of the 39 unfortunate men whom Christopher Columbus left to their fate at Fort Navidad, on the shores of present-day Haiti.
The Jacob’s staff
The journalist faces a unique opportunity: to shed light on one of history’s greatest mysteries and, in doing so, leave behind a routine life that is slowly consuming him. But how can an ordinary citizen, bound by family responsibilities, a mortgage, and the daily grind of work and obligations, break free and find the time and funding needed to chase the opportunity of a lifetime? How far is he willing to go to achieve his goals?
A frantic race against time and reality begins. A journey through the impoverished landscapes of forgotten Haiti, where, however, he will not be the only one chasing the same goal.
“The Wrecked Lady is an exceptional work that blends historical fiction, thriller, contemporary fiction, and crime narrative to deliver a stunning and irresistibly addictive experience.”
